Ozone is proved to be effective for COVID-19 disinfection
Recently, Scientist in Nara medical University and the MBT alliance of Japan, presented the first report in the world that exposure to ozone gas can inactivate the novel coronavirus, COVID-19. Research team confirmed that ozone could inactivate novel coronavirus, and the relationship between ozone concentration and exposure time and ozone inactivation was also proved by experiments.
The COVID-19 virus was prepared by coating stainless steel plates in the box installed in the safety cabinet. Then run the ozone generator set in the odor resistant oxygen tight box, and control the ozone concentration at about 1.0 ~ 6.0ppm. After exposure, the cells were inoculated with virus to determine whether the virus infected the cells and calculate the amount of virus.
The experimental results showed that the survival rate of virus was 1/1000 - 1/10000 when the CT value was 330 (at the concentration of 6 ppm ozone for 55 minutes), and 1/10 - 1/100 when the CT value was 60 (at the concentration of 1 ppm ozone for 60 minutes).
In summary, the study confirmed that ozone can reduce the virus survival rate to 1/10000. This indicates that novel coronavirus can be inactivated under practical conditions.
