Ozone water disinfection

Although chlorine and ultraviolet are the standard means of disinfecting water, ozone is also effective in killing bacteria. So far, ozone is only used as an oxidant in water treatment of large factories. Now, however, Deposon is developing a small ozone generator for smaller applications such as water dispensers or small household appliances.

Compared with traditional disinfection methods such as chlorine or ultraviolet, ozone dissolved in water has many advantages: it is environmentally friendly, has activity beyond its direct source, stays in water for a short time, and then is tasteless. Because of its high oxidation potential, ozone can effectively resist bacteria. It can break down the cell membrane of common pathogens. In Germany, ozone is mainly used to disinfect swimming pools and drinking water and purify wastewater. However, it is rarely used to disinfect water from household appliances, such as ice makers and beverage machines, or other devices, such as shower toilets. Deposon is committed to changing this situation and is developing a small ozone generator integrating sensor technology and microprocessor control system.

The ozonators are very compact and can be integrated into systems and equipment that require regular disinfection. If you connect it to a water pipe, it will produce the right amount of ozone water whenever it is needed. The ozone generator is only a few cubic centimeters in size and consists of an electrolytic battery, a sensor chip, a control electronic device for adjusting current and voltage, and an electronic device for reading sensor signals. The two electrodes are separated by an ion conducting diaphragm. When voltage is applied to the electrodes, the water splits by electrolysis. Due to the diamond coated electrode, hydroxyl radicals are first formed in this process, and then ozone (O3) and oxygen (O2) are formed.
